You may have noticed the folks with the emissions van parked at the side of the road before (usually on the on-ramp of the highway) and wondered what they were doing. Apparently they’re testing our vehicle emissions en masse.
Even better – if you pass one of these “check points” twice in 10 months and come up with a clean screen you don’t have to go and get your vehicle tested otherwise – of course you still have to pay the standard testing fee (like that’s a shocker). Only once per day counts so don’t try driving in circles!
The results take roughly 2 months to process so if your plates are up next month fuggedaboutit. (Is that how that’s spelled btw?) You will NOT get in trouble however for not passing this particular emissions test. You’ll just get yelled at later when you go to do the standard testing and don’t pass. If you have passed you’ll be notified on your renewal card that you don’t have to go in for standard testing.
Of course here’s the ultimate question – if it’s this easy why do we normally have to go sit in that stupid line at the large emission testing center just to get our cars pulled up to the stopping area, then get out and go inside and wait in yet another line while we wait to get the actual car tested, then wait for them to process the paperwork, pay and finally leave???? Turns out you can take 3 seconds to drive past the emission testing van twice and be cleared? Does this make any sense outside of a bureaucrat’s world?
Eegads that bugs me.
Okay, now that my little rant is over – be sure to pass the RapidScreen van this week at Wadsworth Parkway and U.S. 36 (Boulder Turnpike) on the westbound on-ramp to U.S. 36 Monday through Friday. If you don’t plan on traveling in Broomfield this week but would like to start tracking the RapidScreen van find their schedule here.
