Movie Review: The Mummy 3
I was all set to love this movie - mind you, I hadn’t seen the previous 2 (I know, I know, what’s wrong with me? I just never got around to it.) - but I had heard good things and was excited to see the fight scenes, especially the ones using Krav Maga. Unfortunately I have to admit that it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. It was light on the Krav (and martial arts in general) and heavy on the noise - lots and lots of explosions all over the place.
It was one of the movies where I found myself kind of bored and rather antsy early on in the whole thing. It seems to be stretching it a bit as well to have 40-year old Brendan Fraser playing the father of a 20-something person. Fraser’s co-star looks older but after looking it up I realized she’s only 41 so that seemed odd too. Some of the best parts were the bone soldiers who rise up to fight the bad guys and Evelyn’s brother Jonathan who can be quite funny at times.
It doesn’t appear to be getting very good reviews either.
If you haven’t made it up to the new AMC theaters at 144th and Huron you should. The seats lean back and the screen is ginormous. Plus if you go before noon, Fri-Sun (and holidays) it’s only $5 and I’d say The Mummy probably isn’t worth any more than that.
