Try to decide what you want vs. what you need in a house. This helps your real estate agent narrow down the search and focus on specific neighborhoods and whatnot. For instance, maybe you want 3 bedrooms but really only need 2 – your agent can search for 3 bedrooms in your price range, but also show you homes with 2 bedrooms that fit your criteria as well. Or for another example, maybe you’re the type of person who, no way in hell, will live near a busy road but are willing to live in the flight path of an airport. Not only does this help clarify the search in your mind, it helps the real estate agent tremendously. It’s actually easier for me when people are picky about what they want because it gives me a clear direction, makes it easier to search, and easier to preview for my clients.
