A recent article on Foxnews.com explains how some breweries are taking on the generous commitment to donate a certain amount of their profits to helping out our troops and other worthwhile causes.
The first one is a brewery called 50 Back which donates 50% of their profits to organizations that support veterans. You can follow them on Twitter here or “like” them on Facebook here. Unfortunately for those of us in CO it’s only available on the east coast right now. But if you’re making a trip out there, try some and let me know how it is. Their current brew is an American Lager and I definitely like my lager!
Abita, a brewery located in New Orleans, has also helped those in need by developing a Restoration Pale Ale which helped raise funds for Katrina relief. In fact it raised over a half million dollars in two years. And now with the BP oil spill, Abita has released Save Our Shore: A Charitable Pilsner. I do know that Abita’s Purple Haze is available here in CO and is pretty good stuff. I’m not a fan of IPA’s but I do like Pilsner.
Then there is Fireman’s Brew where two firefighters, who were dreaming of a nice cold beer after battling a tough brushfire, decided to create their own beer and donate a portion of the profits to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Apparently they sell coffee as well! This beer is available in southern CA and on the Internet.
I know for certain that here in Colorado, Avery Brewing has donated a considerable amount of funds, as well as resources to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Plus their beer just kicks ass in a super human way.
