They are kidding right??? Please! Someone tell me they’re joking!
9.25%??? 9.25%???
When the economy is “bad” as so many claim (try to find parking in Boulder at the 29th St Mall today and I’ve decided it can’t be that bad) the last thing you should do is raise prices!!
This will likely hurt businesses in the Arista development because the tax increase will encourage shoppers to go elsewhere, especially on more expensive items. If I were a business owner in Arista I’d be furious, not to mention the fact that the whole emphasis behind Arista is that you can have your small business and living quarters in the exact same building! And obviously from a Realtor’s perspective I would fear that this would discourage folks from purchasing property in that area and encourage them to do it in a lower tax area where they’ll get more business.
Managers are pushing for the tax increase because they believe the current fees that are now charged, to ticket holders, are driving away events. The current fee of $5 is used to help pay for the parking structure. And, according to the article, this would not prohibit fees from being added on in the future.
So instead of having the people who USE the Broomfield Event Center pay for the parking garage you’ll have people who are simply shopping in that area pay for it. Gee, that makes sense. photo credit: nalilo
If you were hoping to take advantage of Seller Funded Down Payment Assistance (DPA) you better do it before October 1, which is when that particular form of DPA will be banished. In 2007, the default rate on these types of FHA loans was more than a quarter higher than on other types of loans. It makes sense when you think about it, when buyers use someone else’s money to help fund their homes they don’t have much of their own “skin in the game.” (Dick Armey, former House Majority Leader, is famous for saying something to the effect that criminals, children, and politicians spend other people’s money and therefore need to be watched carefully. I think this could also be applied to Seller DPA.)
Note however, that you can still get DPA from family members, charities and other government programs after October 1. You can also still get a 100% loan from FHA but you’ll need to cough up 3.5% to help cover either closing costs or the down payment.
Greetings Broomfielders on this rainy, rainy, rainy day. The brief chill in the air has me thinking of things I might be able to do before the chill sets in and stays in a couple of months and I’ve decided maybe I’ll start on yet another crocheting project. I pretty much suck at crochet, but hope springs eternal, right?
My mother can crochet, knit, sew, and quilt with her eyes closed and in her sleep and my grandmother was essentially the same way. Me, not so much. I have made some okay baby type stuff for friends but that’s about as good as it gets. Wait, I actually made some very nice potholders for myself!
So I’m thinking today would be a good day to start on one of those projects I swore I was going to do LAST winter and never did. So the best part about the Internet is all the free stuff online and if today’s crappy weather has inspired you to get ready for winter here are some sources for free patterns for you to try.
Crocheted Catnip Mouse (they also have a knit pattern). My cats LOVE these. Unfortunately the dog gets her mitts on them and rips them up when she can. Stuff them with cotton and catnip! (It’s crocheted in a square instead of rounds, which I really suck at, so that makes this pattern super easy.)
I have LOVED to watch the Olympic games ever since I was a kid. I even did a fairly big research paper on the history of them when I was in high school. So I’m excited they’re back. My favorites are the gymnastics, swimming, diving, cycling, boxing, volleyball, rowing, tennis, oh never mind I pretty much like them all.
Anywho, here are a few tips for your viewing pleasure:
If you Google the word “olympics” and the sport you’re after, let’s say “Judo” then Google will automatically give you a schedule for when Judo will be airing on TV.
Did your the seller of your current home urge her neighbors to keep her barking dogs inside, while you were viewing the home? Did you know that the home that backs to yours was a suspected meth lab? Were you aware that the man across the street frequently runs around in his Speedo shouting obscenities at all hours of the night? You probably weren’t. And the real estate agent sure as hell wasn’t going to tell you that either.
There may be a solution to that problem at hand and it’s called Rotten Neighbors. It’s a website where neighbors can either rat on their worst neighbors or give snaps to their best neighbors. I searched the 80020 zip code and this is what I found.
You can even try to win a $1,000 prize in the most interesting neighbor contest!
In the first six months of 2008, according to Metrolist statistics, in the Broomfield neighborhood Willow Run, 11 properties sold with an average price of $253,552 or $156 per square foot.
The part that I found most interesting was the average Days On Market: 30 to be exact! For the first half of this year it took approximately a month to sell a home in Willow Run. That’s huge!
The data for all of 2007 indicates the average home in Willow Run sold for $247,913 or $153 per square foot.
The data for all of 2006 indicates the average home in Willow Run sold for $245,168 or $145 per square foot.
Willow Run currently has 9 properties available for sale ranging in price from $199,900-$278,900, most have at least 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The neighborhood has no HOA, or covenants, is approximately 10 years old, backs to the Dry Creek Open Space area and is close to several area schools and shopping.

I was all set to love this movie - mind you, I hadn’t seen the previous 2 (I know, I know, what’s wrong with me? I just never got around to it.) - but I had heard good things and was excited to see the fight scenes, especially the ones using Krav Maga. Unfortunately I have to admit that it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. It was light on the Krav (and martial arts in general) and heavy on the noise - lots and lots of explosions all over the place.
It was one of the movies where I found myself kind of bored and rather antsy early on in the whole thing. It seems to be stretching it a bit as well to have 40-year old Brendan Fraser playing the father of a 20-something person. Fraser’s co-star looks older but after looking it up I realized she’s only 41 so that seemed odd too. Some of the best parts were the bone soldiers who rise up to fight the bad guys and Evelyn’s brother Jonathan who can be quite funny at times.
It doesn’t appear to be getting very good reviews either.
If you haven’t made it up to the new AMC theaters at 144th and Huron you should. The seats lean back and the screen is ginormous. Plus if you go before noon, Fri-Sun (and holidays) it’s only $5 and I’d say The Mummy probably isn’t worth any more than that.
I hope you enjoy the video I made of the property 1169 W. 102nd Ave., located in Northglenn, CO, priced at $160,000. This great home measures 1,650 square feet total, features BRAND NEW carpeting and paint throughout the main floor, boasts of a large, finished family room area in the basement, has a covered patio out back, as well as RV/boat parking, sits on nearly 1/4 acre of land and comes with all appliances including the refrigerator, washer/dryer and a separate freezer.
